Nerve Blocks

Discogram

Facet Blocks

Nucleoplasty
Nucleoplasty is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat herniated discs. A needle is inserted into the disc and then a catheter (small wire) is placed through the needle into the disc. Radio frequency waves are used to shrink the disc. There is little recovery time required and results are about 70% successful. Not all discs can be treated however, so an evaluation with an MRI is required.

Vertebroplasty
A vertebroplasty is another minimally invasive procedure used to treat the pain of compression fractures. Bone cement is inserted through a needle into the fractured spinal bone to solidify it. There are some risks so a thorough discussion with the physician is necessary.

Radio Frequency Denervation
When chronic arthritis of the spine limits function then the joints can be “frozen.” That is, the nerves to the joints are cauterized so that although the arthritis is not ‘cured,” the patient does not feel the pain as much.

Viscosupplementation
For mild-moderate arthritis in the knees, injection of this joint “lubricant” has been effective in reducing pain for 6 months to 1 year. It is very safe and can be repeated. We have also tried it successfully in hip arthritis.

Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a method of encouraging the body to promote natural healing and to improve functioning. This is done by inserting needles and applying heat or electrical stimulation at very precise acupuncture points.
